Memberships in Professional Associations

I am currently a member of the American Library Association, the Mountain Plains Library Association, the Arizona Library Association, and the Society of American Archivists. (see below).

I have been an on and off dues paying member of the following associations and organizations.

American Library Association : I have been a member of this organization since I started Library School in 1985, and have been on lots of committees over the years. Most recently, I completed a three term on ALA Council. I’ve been a Council member a total of 9 years. Not a member at present.

ALA Rainbow Roundtable: This roundtable used to the GLBTF Task Force, but has recently had a name change and is now called the Rainbow Roundtable. I’ve been involved on and off with this interest group since the late 1980s. My most recent work with the roundtable was to produce a program for ALA 2024. The title of the program was “What’s In A Name” and it featured several speakers, including Emily Drabinski former ALA president.

Arizona Archives Alliance: This is a State-wide organization comprised of archivists and archives workers from throughout Arizona. It has an annual gathering every year in the Phoenix area. I am not currently active but have given presentations in previous years.

Arizona Library Association: I have been a member of AZLA since the early 1990’s. I recently completed a four year commitment as Southern Region representative and member of the Board. Volunteered to be on the AZLA Advocacy committee in 2025.

Association of College and Research Libraries: This is a division within the American Library Association comprised of college and university librarians. I have been a member since 1987 and have served on a variety of committees over the years. Not active at present.

ACRL Rare Books and Manuscripts Section: I joined RBMS in 2012 when I became a Special Collections librarian. Most recently I was a member of the RBMS DIversity Committee. I produced a program for the annual conference. The topic was women in leadership in archives and special collections. Not active at present.

Conference of Inter-Mountain Archivists. This is a regional association of archivists. I was a member at large on the board, for over a year, and I helped allocate scholarships, and sought experts in the field for participation as guest speakers at our forums. Not active at present.

Mountain Plains Library Association. I recently won my membership to the MPLA at a raffle held at the Arizona Library Association conference. It began in Spring 2025 and is good for a year. No involvement yet.

REFORMA, The National Association for the Promotion of Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking. I’ve been a member of this organization since 1987, and have served on a number of committees, both at the national and local levels. Most recently, I served on the REFORMA National Education committee, and locally as president of the Tucson Chapter. Not active at present.

Society of American Archivists: This is a national organization for achivists and archives workers. Served most recently as senior co-chair of the Archivists and Archives of Color steering committee. Renewed my membership in May, 2025.

Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists: No involvement at present.
